· 17TH OF DECEMBER, THE YEAR 2006THE AFFECTED PROVINCIAL’S COMPANION, BY LORD BREAULOVE SWELLS WHIMSY
Lord Whimsy is an associate of mine on LiveJournal who I came in contact with through our common interest in nature (he pointed me toward this fantastic bog on my road trip this past summer). He is also an aesthete, an artist, and a self-described dandy. To describe his sartorial stylings as “snappy” would be understatement in the extreme. “Pavonine” is infinitely more appropriate, to borrow an adjective the man himself admires.
In the book, he holds court on all subjects concerning the modern dandy, including lepidoptery, pocket squares, recommendations for mounting a high wheel bicycle, the deeply disturbing social ramifications of comfortable clothes, and how to defend oneself against those who would physically question your manhood upon finding fault with your perfumed moustache or ostentatious boutonniere (pillow-slapping is the suggested training).
I found the book immensely amusing, and potentially useful if I should ever again feel the need to wear a tie. Highly recommended!
