SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, BY JANE AUSTEN

Sense and Sensibility (Penguin Classics)Yup, more Austen. So far so good, though not quite as good as P & P.

Done
More Victorian fun. It’s interesting that in both S & S and P & P Bath seems to be a place of sin, and London one of revelation. In P & P, Lydia elopes with Wickham when in Bath, and in S & S, Willoughby seduces Col. Brandon’s foster daughter there as well. Might be due to the wikifact that Austen wasn’t fond of the place. London is the place Jane finally disillusions herself of her faith in the good intentions of the Bingleys, and it’s where Mariane learns of Willoughby’s poor character.
