WELL, I JUST WATCHED

well, i just watched the new x-files. it was good. which was a relief, of sorts.

you see, last season sort of let me down, so i really wasn’t all that exited to see what had happenned to mulder. i’ve just been getting so sick of the creator’s/writer’s/prodeucer’s/Fox’s obvious ploys to keep watchers hooked. The persistent ambiguity, which used to be what kept the show interesting, has simply become annoying. to further degrade the position of the show in my eyes, last season featured a bunch of blatant shock tactics: “This week on the X-Files, people are having the crap beat out of them by a bunch of disgusting inbred subhuman freaks!” “This week on the X-Files, a man grows another of himself in a graphic seen that is sure to make you wretch!” “This week on the X-Files, a man with a tail who can morph into any appearance he pleases tries to seduce ‘Scully the Inseducable!’”

and of course the kicker, mother of all their ploys, “MULDER DIES!! YES, YOU HEARD RIGHT!! MULDER DIES!! (even though the actor who plays him has already signed on for another season).”

what used to be an exemplary show (and still is pretty good) is being stretched. we can only hope that CC’s creative integrity will overcome his monetary obsession and that he will make this the last season. *sigh*
