· 10TH OF NOVEMBER, THE YEAR 1997OK. NOW I HAVE SOMETHING
ok. now i have something to write about. the x-files. i was glad to see that sunday’s episode matched last week’s quality. lots of suprises, lots of conspiracy, lots of good lighting and camera angles. an all in all good ep. i thought it was a bit too cathartic, but that’s just because i’m a vulcan.
unfortunately, though, the entire premises of the show sort of toned down what would have been the two most shocking telivision events of 1997. i am, of course referring to the appearance of samantha and the death of the cancer man. the initial reaction should have been (according to fox execs) “OH MY GOD!!!! WHAT FOX HAS BEEN SEARCHING FOR ALL HIS LIFE HAS FINALLY COME!!!! SHE’S ALIVE!! ALIVE, I TELL YOU!!!!” and “HE’S DEAD?!?!?!?!?! THE SMOKING MAN IS DEAD?!?!?!?!?! OH MY GOD!!!! HE WAS KILLED BY HIS OWN ASSOCIATES WHO WE THOUGHT WERE ALL IN CAHOOTS!!!!!” well, as we all know, every single person who watches the x-files is blatantly brain washed at the beginning of every episode with the oh-so-enigmatic last words of deep throat “TRUST NO ONE”, which, as viewers have come to take it as, includes the writers and producers of the show. so my first reaction these “remarkably unexpected” events was not heart failure, but rather indifferent skepticism. but don’t get me wrong. i did like the episode. it’s just i don’ think i was as suprised as fox’s brilliant demographic specialists thought i was going to be. oh well.
