PLACES

I’m cruising around Google Maps, plotting my little holiday odyssey, and I’m startled to find that the geography of the northeast has begun to appear slightly foreign to me. There are roads everywhere. And lakes. Actual standing water. Aside from the profusion of New Somethingshires, there’s actually a diversity of names. Coxsackle! Fishkill! Shutesby! Wilbraham! Uxbridge! They’re a welcome relief to the Bay Area’s Fremont, California, Embarcadero, Richmond, Alameda , rinse, repeat. No doubt nostalgia will overcome estrangement when my shoes crunch snow and my aqueous humor crystalizes.

Wonderful people

Don’t these people look wonderful? I saw them on boingboing, and wanted to be their friend. I don’t know why. They just look like my kind of crazy.

They do look like wonderful people. Here in Nova Scotia we have names like Pugwash, Wolfville, Antigonish, Pictou, and Truro!
