MIGRATING FROM MAC OS 9 TO OS X

The ‘rents got an eMac, so they needed a bit of data moved on to the eMac. More specifically they needed to move from Internet Explorer and Outlook Express for OS 9 to Safari and Mail. The former was just a matter of favorites: grab the favorites.html file from the old machine and run

defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 0

in the Terminal. Restart Safari and you get a Debug menu that lets you import a Favorites.html. Outlook contacts were exported from within Outlook, and then imported with

/Library/Scripts/Mail Scripts/Import Addresses.scpt

Et voila. I’ve lost track of the URLs of the pages that lead me toward these solutions. Alas.
